Hi folks,

Just wondering, is there any good online site where I could upload and store my originals, .psd's and RAW files? Basically, all I need is cheap online hd space, where I can be somewhat assured that they do backups once in a while. I tried flickr and photobucket, but they downsize my images and I don't think they accept psd or RAW files. Maybe something like gmail?

cheers,
doc T

You need an online file store, not a photo storage place. There are plenty of them around, though I suspect google will release a free one in the near future. If you have the bandwidth then great... my 136GB of photos would take a fair while to upload at my measly 192kbps!

Thanks for your reply Tim. I suspect the same thing about Google as well since they magically seem to have unlimited hd space. I'll check out some online file stores.

cheers,

www.lunarpages.com (external link) should be a good site for you. I used them for a webpage a while back and had no issues.

http://www.streamload.com/ (external link) is another option They claim 25GB for free--not bad. I'd use something like TrueCrypt for any data/images you feel are sensitive, however.

www.photoshelter.com (external link)

Pricing here: www.photoshelter.com/tour/feature/price (external link)

You can even send them your images on a hard-drive and they'll archive them to your online storage for you.

Now that's a good idea - I wonder if you can send them a DVD once per month instead of uploading... but then you lose the whole point of an online file store.

For wedding photographers online storage isn't very practical - 40GB/month of photos is a bit much to upload!

Thanks again for the suggestions guys. It's mainly personal family stuff - I'm no pro, so I don't have too much volume, but the pics are priceless to us anyway. ;)

I checked them all out. I think I'm leaning towards streamload.com. The free 25 gb account seems great, but the 10mb/file was sort of limiting, especially for some of the bigger psd files. A paid subscription solved the download situation and the monthly rates were quite cheap too.

cheers,
Rob
