I will be headed there this weekend for the fireworks show they put on. I will have the gear listed below with a tripod... it's a cheapo and hope it holds up... It's a Samsonite 3751 if that tells ya anything... like $40 or something from Circuit City.

It's all I can afford for now.

I will obviously be shooting at night... with the 350D what settings are probably the best for fireworks...?? Exposure time... Aperture... Umm... any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I have a cheap tripod (~$20) for a video camera. One day, I decided to test it for taking pictures with my 300D. To my surprise, it is NOT as steady as my hand! My hand can hold the camera more steady at 1/8 sec!

For longer exposures (several seconds) when taking pictures of fireworks, it may be better than your hands.

Well this thing is really sturdy I have had it out a few times and it does well as long as the Wyoming wind isnt blowing 50mph like usual.

I am not too worried about that.... just wondering if anyone has experience shooting fireworks...

Thanks.

I'd check ahead of time to see if they allow tripods. For whatever reason, park police have been getting really weird about tripods lately at the more popular 'pack-em-in' monuments.

Thank you very much... been looking through it a lot.

I wish I had some better equipment but that comes with time.

You'll be just fine with your cheapo tripod. Just keep it as low as you can get away with, try not to extend the center column. Do a fireworks search, lots of threads lately at this time of the year. If the range will allow, use the 70-200 instead of the kit lens, and just stay close to that tripod! Sounds like a wonderful venue for a 4th of July fireworks show. We'll be expecting some pix.

Sounds good. Yeah there should be no need to extend the tripod... I will mainly be aiming in the sky anyhow obviously.

I will post some pics for sure... even if they arent the best. Gotta start somewhere and maybe from what I post, you all can tell me what to improve on from there.

Thanks everyone!
