this is my girl friend's dads horse. he was abused as a younger horse. they got the horse and started to take care of him. my girl friends dad when on vacation. she went out there to check on the horse and found the horses eye was infected and injured. we went out there the next day to check on it again and take some pictures, to see if it had gotten any better. it looks alittle better i guess than the first time she saw it.
the best guess is that the horse was being picked on by the other horses and ran into a stick. the same thing happened a few years back. they think that the horse was blind in that eye, so it would have been easy for it to run into a stick again.

Not to go completely off topic, but what on earth would you take a picture of this for, and then POST IT? It is evidence of neglect!
I'm hoping a vet was called in the time it took you to take the camera out of the bag, how utterly horrible.

that eye is not INJURED, it is GONE! For someone to allow an animal to suffer like that, holy hell.

Um, someone do something for that poor horse. Don't take a picture of it. If the owner is on vacation then I think you or your girlfriend should atleast call a vet out.

I've been in the live animal trade for over 5 years on and unfortunately i've seen those thing way too often...not in the trade itself but when a large animal not knowing anything better often do cause self injury...a untrained horses are the worst they scare easily and often run into stuff all the time.... the way this horse is now makes it very hard for anyone to help it.... as webejamn said he won't go close to it... getting close to it in the wrong way would only cause more injury....
a Vet would immidiately know EXACTLY what to do...

I've learned that I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy it.

There is nothing wrong with your pictures; number 1 is more pleasant to look at.
Just make sure a vet takes care of the horse, and hopefully it has recovered from the injury.

thats why i went out there with my camera to see how bad it really it, these were taken at 400mm with the 1.6 crop factor and most of these pictures are at 100% crop, so it might seem close but we were fairly far away, we couldnt see any detail just looking at the horse,
