So last night I found myself at the mac store and ended up walking out with a Macbook Pro 15.4". I got the one with 2.16ghz and 1gb of ram.

Does anyone else here have one? How do you like it so far?

Be sure to keep us posted on your experiences.
Personally, I'm holding off until Photoshop is re-written for the new chip set (universal binary?...I think that's what it is called).
Until then, it's the ole trusty G4 Powerbook. :)

congrats on the new acquisition though.

Those mac books are so sexy, no wonder people walk into the apple store and end up walking out with one. Who can resist it?

I use Aperture on my PowerMac and with doing raw files it's a godsend, then you can edit into Photoshop from Aperture without closing the Application, it's pretty good stuff..

Yeah... I am saving up for one as well. I would have held off on purchasing PS until the Universal release as well. They are very sexy though... I am drooling thinking about them...

I went to look a couple days ago, and ended up getting a plain old MacBook 2.0GHz. I added 2GB RAM. It's a very fast machine now. Also just picked up an Airport Express, so I'm typing this now out on my front porch!

I bought an AP express when it came out. It took me awhile to figure out that it could be used as a portable 802.11G/B WPA network extender! Once I tried that, I started bringing it to school where the LAN is only good in a few rooms and making my own little wireless network! Very cool little item! :-)

Funny I should find this post.....I just bought the 17" MacBook Pro even though I'm a firmly committed* Windows user.

The main reason is that I'm intrigued with the ability to run Windows and OS X on the same machine, apparently with little sacrifice in performance. That means I can load all my important Windows applications on the Mac without having to buy the Apple versions. In some cases, they don't even exist.

Another reason was that Apples just makes cooler hardware, and I'm sorry to say, especially so with laptops. As far back as the PowerBook 140, they were always more elegant, and better thought out. I still have one out in my garage, although the mobo has been replaced with one from a 170 (grayscale versus b&w:lol: )

Yet another thing that impressed me was Aperture. It is a downright sexy program, although it is big and complicated. Apple just lowered the price from $499 to $299, so I've purchasd a copy and played with it a little. It's going to take time to learn, but it really looks like the cat's meow for RAW conversions.

One relatively minor advantage to the 17" over the 15", and one that really doesn't matter to me, is it has the 8X SuperDrive instead of the 4X. I don't even know what a SuperDrive is, so clearly this was not a factor in my decision.

I've been using a 17" Toshiba laptop in my travels, and it has done a good job, but it's heavy, slow, gets mediocre battery life, and it's blue. The MacBook Pro is considerably lighter, sprightly, , has much better battery life, and it's silver. Then, there's the nifty backlit keyboard and the even niftier illuminated apple logo on the back of the display.

One other thing: The 17" MacBook will support the 30" Apple Cinema Display. I doubt I'll ever own one unless I find it under the Christmas tree or something. Still, it's good to know that if I ever do find myself in possession of one, I'll have a computer that can run it.

(*Yes, I know. Windows users should be committed.)

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!

I'm waiting for the 15" version to come with Firewire 800 before I get mine. Hopefully that'll be with the next iteration of the 15" MacBook Pro. :)

Honestly, I'm surprised they don't offer it now. Some people really do want all the bells and whistles of the 17" in the 15" package. I'm not even sure what Firewire 800 is, but apparently I have it.

Whoopee!!

Yeah, the 15" PowerBook had it, too, but they conveniently left it out of the Intel version.

I just figured they did that so that they would have something "extra" to offer as an upgrade feature in the next iteration of the 15" MacBook Pro. :)

BTW, the Firewire 800 runs as 800 mbs vs 400 mbs of the regular Firewire and 420 mbs of USB 2.0. All my external harddrives are running at Firewire 800 speed so it makes sense for any laptop I get to support that, too.
