My dad asked me to go to an old car show tonight, and i was curious on what i should bring w/ me. Should i use my 430 EX when it gets dark out, what's a good shuuter speed, aperture, and ISO setting? I probably would use my wide-angle lense the whole time. Any ideas?

a tripod will definitely be your friend here. it'll allow you to do longer exposures are a lower ISO. Apart from that, it'll all depend on the look you want to go for.

I agree, a tripod is always a good tool. If you just want to go hand held with the flash I like to use Manual and set the shutter to about 1/160th and the aperture to 5.0. The camera will take care of the exposure for you using E-TTL. Be sure and check the histogram after each shot to see if you need to bump up the flash exposure compensation. Have fun, there's nothing cooler than old cars.

In Manual Mode you MUST control manually the flash output power (FUNC button). The automatic control of the flash is disabled in manual operation. In this mode there is no ‘pre-flash’ either.

In AUTO and P modes, the flash is ALWAYS in auto mode.

In Av and Tv modes, you can CHOOSE either manual or auto flash operation through the Flash adjust menu setting.

This is true for the Pro1, but I am almost sure the G-series cameras have the same behavior.

Rafael, you are absolutely correct. I just didn't read the fine print in my manual. I guess I'll have to use Av or Tv from now on.
