:D Finally, after ages of seeing virtually no hoverflies anywhere, there are loads in the back garden at last, I don't quite know why this is, but I'm not going to complain (lots of photo opportunities) :D so here are a few of the shots i took of them today, unfortunately with all six feet firmly on the ground. C+C welcome.

Great shots. What lens setup did you use?

Hi everyone, thanks for you replies, :D
I was using the MP-e with the mr-14ex speedlight for all of these appart from number 4 where I turned off the flash and upped the ISO to 400.
Unfortunately I don't have any pics of the flowers, I've got some of the first one, but the ones in all the other pics have started to die off now- :(

Thanks Bandit, I actually think cardiac or neurosurgery sounds pretty cool, only 7 more years of studying to go though :D LOL

This is a nice series, that MPE-65 certainly seems like a sound investment :)
The colours in the first photo remind me of a Dulux advert, albeit without the dog!

Do you know which flowers the hoverflies were visiting?

John.

Nice series, #5 has the best potential, if only it was taken in landscape mode!!! Overall, #6 is the best considering. I like the colours in these shots :)

Thanks again everyone- love the comparison with the dulux ad. :D
I've asked mum to identify the flowers and apparently the first is a clematis, and the bush in all the other shots is a spiraea. :D
