These were taken in Daytona at the Peabody Auditorium during the IDC dance competition this past week. I was so happy to see good lighting. Usually you go to dance competitions and the people who put them on don't spring for good lighting. I was able to shoot at ISO 800 at 1/320-1/400 and 3.2. I used my D Rebel and a Canon 85 1.8. The girl in white is my daughter. I used Nest Image and a little sharpening in Photo Shop.

Nice series of shots here. Number 3 is pretty neat looking, they all seem capable of flying. Your Daughter does a solo? Congrats to Her. :D

The Captain and crew finally got their stuff together, now if we can only remember where we left it.

Yes she does a solo. The other girls in the photos are doing one too. She's been dancing for about 14 years and competeing for 7. She's a senior in high school next year and is taking the year off from dance to enjoy her senior year. Here's a couple more.

looks like you lucked out on finding a great place to take pics.. ISO 800 and 1/400s is pretty damn good even @1.8 most of the time... great shots, color's rich, focus looks good, well exposed etc ;)

just wish that the back of that head wasn't in the second picture... luckly, that's what cropping is there for

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

It was the best lighting I've had at a dance competition. It was the IDC South Eastern National Finals. So they put a little more effort into every aspect of it. Everyone who entered will get a DVD of all the dances they where in. So they had good lighting for the videographer who they brought in from California. They also had a professional photograher there taking pictures and selling them in the lobby. So I took advantage of the good lighting. All the photos I posted had a little cropping and straighting in Photoshop. Here's a couple more. Thanks for looking and your comments.

Outstanding stuff! Great timing! My wife and I have done one dance recital and it was a real challenge.
