Chased this little guy up and down the side of the house.

Question about the flash. Using a flash bracket w/580ex and a piece of white opaque plastic over the lens as a diffuser. Why so much shadow? Wrong angle, not enough diffusion, too much/ too little flash? Or just difficult situation with white wall as background? Thanks for any tips you may have.

Nice image, this is a Jumping spider, and a nice looking one as well. You did a good job of getting the eyes sharp and the DOF to keep its body mostly in focus. I wouldn't worry too much about the shadows, if you lower the flash power via FEC you'll lose details of the spider due to the lack of light hitting it. The only real way to solve the shadow issue is to maybe try another diffuser, and a flash bracket and re-position the flash bracket for more pleasurable light output. Easier said than done. Or, shoot in nature light.

Do you have your flash positioned at or near the front of the lens? Mine sits directly on top of the front of the lens hood, dont go too far over or you will get a flare!
