Playing around with a home-made extension tube and Olympus lens. Can you guess where this is?

Yah, sure, but which one? I also found some interesting "omissions" on this bill. Will post later.;)

Series 2003 five dollar bill, with the large Lincoln portrait. It's from the frame of the portrait, just to the left of "LINCOLN". I can't read it, or really even see it, without a 5x loupe. Even with the loupe, it's darned fine print, so that's one heck of a shot. Just how many feet of extension did you use? How did you manage to light it up with a 3 micron working distance? :-)

You should post a pic with part of the LINCOLN showing for comparison. 'LINCOLN' is roughly a mm tall, and at a wild guess (I can't find my calibration scale), the little letters are less than 1/10 of that--thinner than many pencil lines.

(One of our after dinner games is to try to find as many security measures as possible every time a new bill comes out. Have you checked this or the other newer bills out under UV? There are glowing strips now, too, with tiny lettering. )

Right on the spot: 2003 series 5-dollar bill. I shot this with a 7mm Olympus extension tube + a 20mm glass-gutted 2x tube (it was a Haminex 2x doubler that I removed teh glass from) + an old Vivitar Macro-Doubler (extends like a zoome lens) with a 28mm Zuiko lens. It was quite a kick looking around the $5 bill. I also noticed that there was some minor omissions on the memorial. Specifically, the second row frieze: South Carolina is Just Carolina, and New Hampshire is just Hampshire. As far as I could find out, no one knows why.

Edit: The lighting was just 7:00PM evening sun.
