Found another widow while moving the bbq pit. This spider was inside the bbq pit near the bottom. I guess it crawled in through the bottom vents. I relocated the spider to a chain for better shooting. Her bottom end is about 14mm diameter. Shot with a 20D and the new ef-s macro.

wow.

very cool. Since I learned to be able to view these 3d images...the images are quite good on their own...but with the 3D they really do just POP out. I like the second one VERY much. the DOF is great and the red/rust colored chain just pops out of the green background...same with the red on her belly.

great job!!

Thankyou Mikelangelo. I couldn't decide which I like better, so I posted both :P

I'm glad you did. Even those I liked the second ...the first is also excellent as well. The blue sky works marvelously to pop the single chain out. The biggest criticism of the first one is simply that you can't see the red marking on the spider. (but that's nitpicking.)

Da&%!!! That 3-D effect is just too freeky on these spiders. Thanks god the scariest thing we have here is mosquitos! Excellent shots.

I couldn't get that angle with her facing the sky but I know what you mean. I had to remind myself what 14mm looks like, guestimated wrong, looking at my westcott ruler I'd say she's more like 11mm around.

Thanks CrazyStang.

Very nice. The 3D effect is more pronounced on the 2nd one ;)

Both excellent 3-D shots with good DOF good alignment and excellent 3-D depth.

Thanks Leo, I thought the background was a little confusing in the second shot but it worked well enough. Brian, thanks for noticing the allignment, I use a grid in elements to help line them up.

Do a google search for stereophotomaker it's freeware and makes aligning shots very easy. One thing you will find with 3-D shots is that the 3-D de-confuses confusing backgrounds- it's actually good to have a lot going on in the background to give the 3-D effect more "layers"

What am I missing here, how do you view them in 3D?

Kraig, where are you from that you find these Black Widows?

You have to go cross-eyed and still keep focus to view them in 3d. The widow spiders are nearly everywhere, these happen to be in our backyard in California.
