Post your Canon repair cost

Recently, I sent what was my beautiful 85mm f1.2L in for repair, via my local photography store. About 8 years ago, the lens had fallen out of a camera bag, attached to it's camera (I think it was a 20D).

Alas, the original estimate was far wide of the mark, when Canon announced due to a broken motor, they would have to charge $1700 for the repair. This, I had to decline.

Someday, I'll again have the 85mm, probably the new Mark II.

I dropped my EF 85mm f1.2L II bolted up to my 1Ds Mk III on a concrete floor. Canon charged $385 for a front barrel assembly. This must include the front element because it was cracked. Now it is not and the lens is better than it was.

The ole Ds3 did not suffer any damage! But it was also sent in with a CLA order.

while @ e-town for the races, on sunday morning my camera took a dive off the hotel bed onto the concrete floor. it's a 70D and I had my 15-85 lens mounted to it. good thing I didn't have the new 100-400 mkll or my 70-300L mounted at the time. the hinge for the LCD screen was cracked but still worked. I called CPS when I arrived home and sent both the body & the lens in. lens came back N/C even though they replaced the front element and the AF system. the body on the other hand cost $210.00 and that's with my CPS discount. VERRY happy so far...............

EF 70-200 2.8L IS II USM - Lens did not seem as sharp as before on the short end. Always performed beautifully at the longer end.

Very satisfied - reviewing initial pictures when I first purchased the lens from B&H - it never performed better but that maybe due to the fact that I had a 7D vice a 1D Mark IV.

EOS 1D Mark IV - mirror box would activate by itself while carrying the camera and lockup momentarily. Subject tracking and focus seemed off as the number of keepers dropped. Then during greater than 85 degree temperatures would encounter Err 20. On and Off would clear. Got a break in shooting and sent them to CPS.

Cosmetically - WOW, the bayonet mount, mirror, visible internals really shine. Like brand new! No finish/rub marks from lenses being mounted. Functionally, everything seems to be working - but have not been able to really test the 1D Mark IV in the heat of battle for tracking and keeper rate.

November 9, 2015 - Follow up, very satisfied with replaced Mirror Box Assembly as the proper repair. Tracking and keeper rate has returned and no Err 20 codes in the heat.

Of the dozen Canon DSLR's I've bought, I still own seven. I have only ever had to have a shutter replaced on a 5D Mark II at a cost of nearly $325 Canadian three years ago.

I had been shooting in light misty rain for a half hour. When I returned home and turned the camera on, I heard a crunching noise and the camera would no longer respond except with an ERR 99 on the LCD display.

i had almost the same. scratched sensor on a 5d, was quoted almost $2,000 for the part. this was last year.

I have a 70-200 mk ii that is closing in on 12 months old and end of warranty. is it possible to send it back to canon for a free checked up and calibration/adjustment if needed?

Figure I can add my repair to this list. Had a wobbly focus barrel on my 70-200 and a cosmetically damaged front ring. Ended up having to replace the whole ring and I decided to replace the front element, too. Costly.
