Obviously right?

So I was curious whether or not this has at all affected your precious when stored inside an ordinary Lowepro bag.

Quesiton comes up since I'm headed down to San Diego, California for college and I've noticed it'd more humid than Northern California, Bay Area region.

If it were a problem, do you think Silica Dessicat humidity-eatting-packages are necessary?

I am from that humid Nor Cal area. No need to sweat it. LOL, get it. Sweat? Any way. Is your gear showing any signs of condensation? Never had a problem here in the bay area. So I recommend you switch to a nice flavorful decaf blend and chill.

Dante is right - as long as you don't have CONDENSATION - your gear is OK ...
In areas of high-humidity what you have to worry about is getting from a cold area to normal ambient temperature. That's when condensation starts to happen.

Canon recommends (in many of its LENS user manual) to wait for a while [Until gear temperature equals to ambient], and than unwrap the gear off its nylon wrapping ...

I was corrosion specialist for the U.S.Navy for several years and can tell you as fact that you do not have to see liquid moisture for humidity to cause as problem between dissimilar metals. Fungus could be an issue as well. That said, there does not appear to be a problem with corrosion in Canon cameras due to the materials used. However when storing or travelling with my gear I always keep it in a Pelican case with their dessicant pack. They don't ship electronics and cameras with the little dry packs in the box just because they had a bunch of them laying around the warehouse.

From the manual: Air humidity when working: 85% or less. No problem unless you visit the rain forests.

For a dessicant to do any good, you'd need to have the dessicant packs and the equipment in airtight sealed containers. Without a sealed container, the water vapor in the air would find its way into the container as fast as the dessicant could remove it.

I have never had a problem with storing cameras in conventional camera cases, and have been in some rather humid places with them.

EVer been to the southeastern portion of the US. Humidity here reaches 90% quite often, especially after an afternoon thunderstorm. With that being said I haven't experienced any problems except the occasional pulling the cold camera out into warm weather. Both times it happened were at the beach.

LOL - Thats exactly what I was thinking - When did the muggy midwest become a rain forest - this time of the year humidity often reaches the upper 90s.

Switched to Nikon . . . Thanks to all of you that made my sale a success! Enjoy your new gear!

Hi shutterghost...I'm from the San Diego area and have never had a problem with humidity, and I too use a Lowepro bag. I don't recall ever putting a selica packet in my bag, but don't think it would hurt.

BTW, there are a few local dslr clubs in the area that you may enjoy hooking up with. Groups shoots, etc. If interested, let me know.
