For the last week I've been trying to convience myself that the 5D with its FF and 12mp was better suited to my style of shooting and maybe it is, in fact I know it is! LOL

But after trying to work out a trade for a 5d, and then trying to sell the 1Dmk2, and changing my mind a dozen times during the process I finally realized I can't bring myself to do it.

It has to be an ego thing! but there is no way but up for the owner of a 1D body. So now my sights are set on a 1DsMk2, or maybe keep the 1Dmk2 and get a used 1Ds?? LOL But either way a 1D is going to be my camera.

This is the very reason I don't want to own any "L" glass :D

IMHO the 5 D is overrated, and once you have shot with a 1Dsm2 and seen the results you will not shoot with anything else bar mayby the 1Dm2N when needing shutter speed.

Oh No !! They've started another "Why I love my 1D" thread ! Just kidding guys. It's not sour grapes. I can afford one and wouldn't have to sell the Mercedes or Rolex to get it, but do you need to bash the 5D while patting yourselves on the back? Makes me think you secretly want one. This rant is done entirely in good humor.;)

yes a 1 series is the bees knees but if you need an affordable full frame option you cant knock it.

I would love full frame and a 1 series to really help me along..

But lets face it.. Its the user who makes the photos. If you need full frame to do that, ... well you know what im saying.

Personally,
I'd love to have both cameras. I'd use the 5 D for studio (I have a 5 D) and the 1 D MK II for wildife and sports. I do have to disagree with one comment here however. The 5 D has the cleanest files I've ever seen so this camera is definitely not overrated.

I defied that premise - I had a 1D II for over a year, shot thousands of shots, and in the end, after side-by-side comparisons with my style of shooting, came away favoring my 5D.

BTW, I suspect you're referring to "frame rate" when you mention shutter speed - both are capable of 1/8000 second max shutter speed, and both have very good response rates. The 1DII can fire 8 frames per second and the 5D, 3. Useful for some, not for me.

Having both would, of course, have been nice, but I really couldn't do that so I chose the one that I found more useful.

This was NOT suppose to be a "5D sucks thread" whatsoever!!!

This was all about my statemnet "It must be an ego thing!" thats all :D
My point is sometimes its hard to do whats right when your ego gets in the way.

If you do much high-ISO work, you'll prefer the 5D over the 1Ds. The 1Ds II is, of course, a good performer as well, but at a price.

This is the very reason I don't want to own any "L" glass :D

Start shooting the full-frame cameras and you may find yourself wanting a couple of "L" lenses. :)

Isn't it almost inevitable that Canon will come out with a 1D successor with 5D sensor?

So you can have the best of both worlds.

They already have a 1-series better than the 5D. 1DsMkII. Full frame, and 16.7MP. No need to make another.

Regarding the 1DsMkII being better than the 5D. That may be true but what a price to pay!!! Almost $8000!!

Yea it would be tough to give up that 1 series feel.......if nothing else. I picked up a 20D as a second body, and man does it feel like a plastic toy compared to my N. 5d is a great camera, but it would really have to knock my socks off to ever sell my 1 series and get one. Maybe when the second version of it comes out I'll drop the 20D and buy it..........and honestly I might have bought it if it had a pop up flash since I use it (the second body) as a P&S.

I love my 1D Mark II's but I ran into a wedding photographer couple who traded theirs in for 5Ds because, "the colors were bad with the 1D Mark II's" and they wanted more pixels. I would replace my 20D third/backup body with a 5D but I have heard that they don't focus well in dim light which is a must for me.
