Lovely series Brian, especially like the image of the dragonfly on your finger, and the closeup of the eyes!!! As usual, very sharp, lovely colours and great DOF.

Dave

Thanks Dave
The finger shot was a bit of an accident as far as DOF goes- I was in TV mode aand the aperture went down to something like F22.

Think they are down to a good model and decent light :)

I suspect a dragonfly could bite you - they have the right mouth machinery, but I suspect you would have to pick one up by the lower body and annoy it a bit to get it to do it. Can only say I've never been bitten by one.

Most of the shots were with a sigma 105mm EX in natural light. The head closeups were with an MPE-65 with flash although they could have been done with the 105EX plus perhaps some tubes.

They look like they could bite, but in fact dont. Many people also think they can sting (given the tail) but all a myth - there's some story about a horse and a dragonfly, that the horse bolted when the dragonfly approached and the 'fly then got the name horse stinger.
