Today was like Xmas in july!

So Monday I start at the Art Institute of Colorado where ill be getting my BA in photography. Today was my orientation and blah blah blah. When i registered they talked about the photo kit alot, and i kept saying, i dont need one, ive got a camera, all i need is a light meter. Well, apparently i misunderstood, because the camera kit is rolled into tuition, so today i got all kinds of cool goodies! I wanted a 2nd body anyway

Dang, almost worth trying to go back to school. The battery grip helps a lot with the size issue. Good luck with school, I know I could have used it.

If you're in school for photography, you'll probably need to use non-auto manual camera like the Pentax K1000. You need to learn the basics, not the fancy editable stuff.

im going to a school for commercial photography(fashion, product, journalism, etc), everything is digital and large format.

Congratulations! Thats a nice little starter kit they give you. Probably makes sense for the school. Everyone is shooting with the same gear. No waiting in line, or making reservations to check out equipment from the photo lab.

If I went there I'd sell everything and buy a 5D :P

But I'm wondering if you didn't know you were getting the kit and unaware that it is included in the tuition perhaps they solicit manufacturer's for product donations....if that's the case then kudos to the company's supporting the program!

That looks like a pretty good set up! Imagine how you'd feel if you got given a Nikon D50 to start with tho!

For what you're paying, that camera should've at least been a 20D.

ya youre probably right a 20d would have been cool, but ive got one now i have a 2nd body so i dont have to keep switching back and forth between lenses all the time, i can keep my wider lens on the xt and my 70-200 on my 20d. im pretty pumped, classes start monday!

Wow, I wish they'd give that kind of stuff over here! I highly doubt they do... I gotta check out this Uni...

tempted to go enroll there now.. hah awsome kit man, u'll love the XT, =) it's babyish but it gives quite a punch. U won't be disappointed with the quality

ya, i think that using it with the battery grip will complement my 20D/grip quite nicely! ive taken a few pics with it, and its pretty nice! im planning on getting a sigma 24-60 to put on it, that way the 70-200 can stay on my 20d most of the time!
