D65 (6500K) and Gamma 2.2 are industry standards. Luminosity and black point will be determined by your specific workstation area's normal lighting conditions and monitor capabilities.

I've tried the D65 and 2.2 settings on my Mac, and it seem's to be to yellowish.

Clearly you were used to a very cool colour temperature - probably 9300K. Persevere for a few days, and you'll adjust to the 6500K temperature. D65 is the standard for monitors used for photographic work.

From my understanding, MAC's default is 1.8 while the Gamma on windows machines are usually 2.2

Mac default used to be 1.8. Nowadays a lot of people use 2.2
Then again, it will only affect the way your desktop (and non colormanaged apps) looks, since all other aplications like safari, preview and photoshop are color managed. So they use the display profile to display files correctly. Regardless weather you set gamma to 1.8 or 2.2
