First up is a five spot burnet feeding on yellow daisy, second is a small skipper on bramble blossom. Both taken this afternoon near Bath UK. Canon S3+500D.

Lovely shots Eccels.

Good detail retained in the blacks on the five spot burnet. Both nice and sharp.

The small skipper shot might be slightly over exposed causing some colour desaturation but you were obviously coping well with the contrast due to the lighting.

Thanks Lester. The blossom petal at the top is washed out too isn't it, although I think the butterfly is about right. I'll have to try setting up 'my colours' to a custom lower contrast level and see how that goes on bright sunny days. Today was difficult though as it was a mix of sun and cloud and some of my shots during cloudy spells are a bit flat.
One thing's for sure, you get more failures the closer you get. I reckon I got about 10%

Lots of small skippers around at the moment - at least here in South London. Great shots given the changeable weather we are having at the moment

Burnet shows moths can be just as colorful as butterflies.Good exposure on yellow flower, white one is a bit blown.
