Skrim17 welcome to the forum, I think it's a nice photo and so what if it's a family photo.
Please post more.

"Portraits, family shoots and snapshots, candids, group shots, people doing this and that." Is what it says on the forum listing describing the folder, didn't realize 'just' family pictures wasn't included in that. But thanks anyway.

Hey Skrim, welcome to POTN and post more pix.

I like the way there is so much light bouncing around near pools that faces end up lit well - can't get into trouble with so much reflected/diffused light around.

It is really good, but I just think its a bit plain, because the water in the background is really light colored.

p.s. I am not a new memeber, I just barely ever post. I've been around for half a year.

I think this is really cute! ITs a great smile and captures the sweetness of a child just having fun. They grow up so fast, it's nice to capture these "fun" moments. If you want technical critique, I would say to try to include his hands in the photo to avoid an aputee type of look... you can do some selective sharpening on his eyes which would really bring them out nicely.

The exposure is good and he is making nice eyecontact.

Welcome to the forum skrim. I post a lot of family snapshots too. Try to look at the feedback as a learning tool, I haven't come across any rude people here on POTN. Most are just trying to offer an opinion so that you can grow as a photographer.

I usually state why I am posting and welcome feedback. If you had started out with "Snapshot of my son" or something similar you will get feedback that reflects that.

are you trying to tell me my kid needs a haircut? lol

I am just trying my hand with photoshop and RAW images, he has a naturally reddish skintone and very blue eyes but I need to hone my selection and edit skills without making people look like raccoons and such.

Thanks for the edit, it looks great!
