Two Damesels

Saw a lot of dameselflies today, so took the camera out and captured a couple.

These are the two colors I see the most around here. Eye is a bit OOF on the second. I didn't have a whole lot of light to work with so DOF is a bit narrow. Which works for the one on the concrete, I think (Had I nailed the eye and rest of the body...)

I probably need to think about carrying a flash, when out.

#2 looks good, #1 really suffers from the lack of DOF- what lens were you using?

I was using the Quantarray on both. I can see what you mean with #1, #2 I think suffers a bit from this as well. Shots were taken in the late evening, so not a whole lot of light to work with. Both were shot at 1600 iso #1 was run through neatimage.

#1 is also a crop, which probably also hurt.

try getting the whole subject in focus by taking its side profile if u're not taking a really close-up shot..... that way, the entire body, head to tail, falls within your dof and you should get a pretty sharp image....

It makes a refreshing change not to see the whole of the damselfly in focus - I think it gives the photos an almost 3D effect.
