i just dont remember, i used to shoot macro two summers ago and was getting pretty good at it. I owned a sigma 150 macro lens and i remember it being fast and able to get real close to critters.... but i sold it... Anyway to make along story short, i just bought a new sigma 150 macro and saying to myself "HOW DO YOU USE THIS THING"? Its brand new from a reputable dealer, but boy is this thing hunting! Also when i get really CLOSE UP TO A BUG, IT WONT FOCUS BUT STARTS TO "HUNT".... i remember being able to literally put this glass ontop of a bug and get it to lock focus... i just dont remember if there are special techniques or advice i should heed.....
anyway here is a pic i took but I had to really back up and i think the pic should have been sharper..
ANY ADVICE?????

Stick to manual focusing. Pretty much everyone here manually focuses and uses the swaying back and forth technique to get the insect's eye sharp.

Sigma 150 is slowest focusing lens I own even in non macro use - your memory must be playing tricks!

While virtually all macro lenses are very sharp, the AF's are usually very slow, including the Sigma 150mm. As others suggest, MF is the way to go for macro works! :)

Once you get used to MF, you'll love it Troy. No more having to use focus points, no more dependence on the lens finding what you want to focus on. Take back the control. ;)
