I suppose this might also work on other cheap lenses. Has anyone tried this on a 28-80 or 35-70?

There is no focus because the front element is removed.
All that you can control is the zoom as well as focusing by moving closer or further away from the subject.

Pictures at f/22 are not bad.

Lets see, here are a couple pics I took with this lens.I did this mod to my MK III but I also have a MK I of this lens that was an extra with a bundle package that I bought. I actually like my MK I, its very sharp for such a bleh lens :D so I wont modify the MK I (Which is the one mentioned earlier that just twists off.)
Here is a Spider I took a picture of, she was small enough to fit on a dime.

O.K. I really really want to do this. Mine doesn't have a sticker either, but I can't seem to take anything off the front, poppin' something off, or twisting doesn't seem to do anything and I am afraid of doing something the wrong way. It's a EF-S 18-55 mm 3.5-5.6 ll Does anyone know what I should do?

That is exactly what I asked right before your post. I'm hoping so.

i know this is a old thread but i just poped my front element off. now i am wondering if i take the glass out of the front element and screw it back on will it work or will there be a black ring around the edge of photo. this way i can put a filter on it maybe even some macro rings and get bigger magnification. whay say you?

I'm interested in that as well, as I have one of these with a few scratches on the front element lying around :)

I am doing the same thing to my lens right now, i check with other people on other forums and you can put the top element piece (without the top element) back on and it will work fine, you can put the filter on to keep the dust out too. Post some pics when you get it going.

Here is a pic i took with the converted lens. BTW, if you want to put the top lens piece back on you can break the top glass element and push out the other one, then screw the piece back on and put a cover on to protect from dust....

That's impressive to say the least. I did a quick check over on Amazon, and it looks like you can get these used for ~$40. May just have to pick one up.
