Well technically in the neighbours garden (I was standing in the shared drive though :) ), what I think is a jewel wasp on the petal of a margaritte daisy- seemed to be taking interest in the aphids at the base of the flower but kept on getting chased off by black ants.

I`ve been waiting for you to capture one of these blighters for some time, i suspect it dident come out as well as you expected ?, due to the usual reasons of it not keeping still for long enough.

I did capture one recently and managed to find a method of slowing it down, but my silly camera still dident capture it correctly, i`ve seen bee-keepers using smoke before and i thought i`d try that method, which worked for awhile :D ...

Fantastic colours.

You are quite right- took about 11 shots of this little blighter and only 3 were in focus- worst ratio I've had in ages. Didn't even attempt to shoot higher than 1:1- couldn't keep it in focus at that :).
It's been suggested it was getting honeydew from the aphids and from what I saw on another site sugar mixtures with apparently alcohol in them seem to attract them and maybe keep them in one place for a little while ( only found this out later).

Thanks Mark-
It is a beautiful bug. Size is from just ratioing the bug length to picture width * 22.7mm (sensor width) as I was shooting at 1:1 :)

What i did was to capture it in an upturned plastic container then blow some smoke into it - wait a few minutes then release it, it was considerably slower and seemd to lose the ability to fly, it probably had a cough for a few days afterwards but looked ok when it eventually flew off ...

Can't say as I have ever seen a wasp like this but it contrasts quite well against the flower petal. The metallic colors are great!:D
