My cousins initiated me to Pink Floyd (and its culture & history) when I was in my early teens (I'm 27 now). I also had the chance to see them in concert in 1994 with one of them them. But as I grew older I became more distant of PF (I still have some albums, and listen about 1 per month) - one of my cousin hadn't. Heck, HE's hardcore. He was Roger Waters in concert in Montreal, Canada (he lives near) a few months back, but he recently flew oversea to see the same show in England!
He has many PF, PF members and Syd books, boxsets, memorabilia and most (if not all) their albums. I think it's surprising to see someone in its middle-twenties being so addicted to PF.
Like I said, I still listen to some PF, but I really prefer older albums (up to The Wall). Syd's music was quite special, very ludic and childish (sometimes circus-like), but yet melodic too (except the vocal intro of "If it's in you"
). Seems he had a super playful mood in his better, earlier days (don't we all, in fact?) from the pics I saw of him.
I don't know why, but I listened the whole Wish You Were Here album yesterday, and it seemed more poignant than usual...
RIP Syd, your work down here wasn't vain at all, you inspired a lot of people...
