A while back, Dante started a thread in which he referred to my daughter as "poor suffering girl has a ps camera." https://photography-on-the.net …hp?p=1607503&postcount=40

Well, last week was her birthday, 16th birthday to be exact. I was pretty glad she wasn't wheedling for a car, but I did know she had a hankering for a DSLR.

So, some things were shuffled around, and I was able to get her a Rebel XT. She had no idea what was up. All she knew was that I took back a memory card I had given her before our big roadtrip to wrap it up in a big box and give it to her proper. Only thing was, there was a bunch of other stuff in that box along with her memory card. It started with a Tamron lens, and ended when she hauled out the box with the DRebel XT in it.

This shot was from when she was starting to figure it out:

Here she had figured it all out, and was just beaming:

And it wasn't too much time later that I caught her chimping...

heh heh heh... Between the two of us, I don't know who enjoyed it more. Me getting to watch events unfold, or her getting to pull stuff out of a big B&H box...

Congrats! Those large B&H boxes are going to be her favorites too. I'm giving my son my old 10D this week. He's been using my 20D with L lenses on this vacation, so I'm sure he'll have some let-down, but at least he'll start off with good stuff. You're a good parent to give your child the best tools for growth and learning. Let her post some of her work when the time comes. She may do better than you think. My son took some truly remarkable shots at the Tetons this week. He's 6 foot 3 and had a much taller perspective than me. It's a unique bonding opportunity as well. Share the joy. :)
