This was GREAT being able to watch the expression on her face as she "figured" it out. Thanks for sharing these special moments. :D

Awesome series of photos, you can almost hear her excitement looking at them. I love them.

Soon, she'll not only be asking for the keys to the car, she'll be asking to borrow your nice collection of lenses.

LOL! I'd already thought of letting her use the L glass for extra chores. Of course, she already owes me extra chores because she's at camp this week.

Now the boys are pestering me for cameras... Hmm... I think the deck needs painting...:mrgreen:

That's awesome!! She must be so excited!
It's too bad that my parents didn't take pictures when they gave me my XT in December... I'm pretty sure my expressions were the exact same as your daughter's, from the hopeful "just realizing it" expressions to pure joy... this reminded me of that, which is why I had to reply :D ;)

Amazing ... I was just discussing with my wife if I should give my 20D and some glass (maybe 24-105mm f4L IS and 100-400mm) to my daughter to get her interested in photography. But since I just gave her a new computer my wife is iffy ... that and my daughter is only 4-1/2 and couldn't hold the camera much less run it! So I am now thinking about getting her a little point and shoot and teaching her how to download her own pictures ... any recommendations? :-)

If you feel she is responsible enough for it, I'd look at a little canon powershoot a510, or a520, or whatever is their current model around there.

I have one for my daughter and it takes nice photos, as well as gives the ability to go manual. The interface for manual takes a little getting used to, but you can amazingly nice photos with them. stay away from the kodak's, although i doubt they would be a consideration, they don't focus very well.

You may (or may not) be tempted to get her a cheap little PnS with built in memory to start out... but truely they are more a pain than they are worth. I got both my older kids a vivatar 640x480 camera with 16megs built in... problem was, it was not RAM... it was only saved to the camera as long as the battery held up or was plugged into a USB port. And it ATE batteries like mad. If the battery door opened up by accident... and it did... bye bye pics. Oh well... they only cost me $30 each. They make a halfway decent webcam though.

My recommendation is... if you're not concerned with money... to an extent... Canon makes some great little PnS cameras under $200.00 If you are looking to spend much less... you could buy used off of Ebay. I have an old Kodak DC3400 that still takes GREAT pics (for what it is) and I can find em all over Ebay for about $60.00 It's a 2.1MP. Not great in low light though. It's only good for ISO 200 tops.

Thanks guys! I will likely get some sort of Powershot ... I got my wife one and I honestly expect they will share until Anna demands her own! But the 20D did cross my mind. Anyway, I want to use it to get her more involved with the computer, too. I'll let you know.

Oh, there'll be a cost there. Dante's idea got me working on a nice looong chore list... And since she's at camp this week, I can volunteer her for all sorts of interesting things...

Dwight, I'm sure you daughter would love a little P&S. We have an older Sony P&S that my 9 year-old used quite a bit on our road trip. He was having an absolute blast taking pictures in sepia, B&W, and as a negative (of all things). Since your daughter's still pretty young, features like this will make it more fun for her. There was one time my daughter took some pictures of her friends with the camera in sepia mode and they all had a blast looking at themselves in those "olde tyme photographs." :D

Good work, eventually when she starts working, you can guide her towards other lens so you can have a massive collection. :p
