That was my first thought too. Okay, actually it was my second thought. My first was something along the lines of wishing I could afford a huge white lens.

Yeah, maybe the flash had other purposes.. balance the weight back of that enormous thing,

Was about 30metres up into the grandstands, and the centre is probably 60 metres away...
Here's a 300mm shot

Mybe he is using the flash for the beam?

Ah I'd take the glass. But the tape looks like crap.

The flash doesn't look on though.

Man, i can't believe they let him in with that lens(not that I would object as I'd do the same thing if they allowed it at more events). He probably had a chance at wacking someone's head with that. :D

The flash is probably mounted for convenience. Saves him the trouble of having to fumble around trying to mount it when/if needed. My guess anyway. If I saw someone shooting with that rig, I'll assume he/she knows how to shoot and the limitations of his gear. ;)

first question, what is that lens? the rings don't match up to a 600/500/400 2.8/300 2.8/300 f4...
second question, if 300mm gave you that picture, that guy's lens would be good for portaits and that's about it?

hood looks fine though, probably broken hood mount and the guy had to tape it to keep it in place... i'de rather do a nice soldering job, but this is the easiest way to keep it on until you need to take it off. and that guy must be jacked to hold up the lens like it's a toy (unless it's a fake lens that's completely hollow)

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.
