I found this insect just hanging out inside one of my daylilies. It seems to move from blossom to blossom just hanging out there.

I wish the DOF would have been a greater but otherwise I'm happy with the photo.

I like the colors and composition but it lacks DOF.

That's what I though too. As a matter of fact I said 'wish the DOF was greater'. But thanks for confirming for me.

lovely shot........... i don't think the relatively shallow DOF detracts from the shot....
way too many people are fixated with getting HUGE dof when in fact shallower dof can make a shot better in some circumstances...

Thanks chemicalbro. I think that I really need to start practicing focus stacking though. On this shot I don't mind the legs being OOF, but I would have liked to have a little more of the antenna in focus since one is coming out toward the viewer.

Thanks for the encouraging words,
Travis

think about how your eyes work............... the thing you are looking directly at is in focus..... objects on the periferal of your view are oof...
but our eyes dart back and forward from object to object making up a whole sharp image (natural focus stacking :))

i think that the DOF you get at f/10 looks most natural and closest to what our eyes see....
next time you find a bug get real close to it with just your eyes...
all the stuff around it ,, leaves etc will be OOF

I always find that if theres too much DOF either by changing aperture higher than say f/11 or using some other method like focus stacking.... the pictures tend to looke false somehow...... un natural..
maybe thats just me

Nice analogy chemicalbro. Maybe not an analogy, but at least a real world perspective of DOF and how it influences macro images. I never honestly thought of it like that.. So thanks for that.
