Has it got IS?
If so then turn that off and see if there's a difference.
It should be almost completely silent.

I asked this in another thread but all you 70-200 guys are here it seems. I have the 70-200 2.8 non-IS version with out the ring collar tripod mount. First does anyone here know where I can get one? There are plenty available for the f4 version, I know. The most important question I have is this: if I use the camera bodies mount (I use the battery pack) to mount the 20D on a tripod does anyone think the weight of the lens will be too heavy for the camera body? I don't want to stress my 20D. I do have a real strong tripod and ball head so that will not be the issue, just the weaght of the lens stressing the body mount. Opinions please!

I would look for a tripod ring for it.
Just having the balance right is worth it for me especially on a mono-pod.

Bought used for a real good price, prior owner seemed to have misplaced it, don't ask me how:mad:
I figured it would be easy to get a ring, I have a f4 version and the mounts are available all over the place. I will prob have to go direct to Canon, hope they are easy on me:rolleyes:
