thanks...I can always add a lens later...just need to get a good starter package

what if I got the 18-55 kit lens (to cover the gap from 18-24)...would you then say 24-105 and 70-200?

Sounds reasonable for a starter kit! I would have loved to start off with this! Just stay away from the 7x-300mm lenses for now...

Thats what I was thinking...it seems like I am going to have to find a way to afford the f/2.8. Of course I have a lovely Nikon 80-200 f/2.8 that was used on our 35mm Nikon....but I want to switch to Canon for the dslr as Ive been happy with our canon p&s digitals.

Why not get the 70-300 IS then for lowlight, since the 70-200 L f4 is not enough and the 70-200 L 2.8 is way more expensive?

17-85 and 70-300 IS USM - my preferred two-lens combo for the 350D.

The 70-300 can and WILL run with the 70-200 f/4L in terms of image quality, easily. Avoid the 75-300 (note 75, and not 70) zooms and avoid comments that lump the new 70-300 in with the old 75-300 because they are totally different lenses.
