After seeing LordV's raindrop/waterdrop post, I had to give it a try. Well, as luck would have it, it rained today. After the rain let up I went out looking for some droplets. A far cry from LordV's images, but this was my first try and I didn't really find too many drops to practice on.

Sorry the background is terribly boring, but that is all I had to work with. This droplet was on a hasta (sp?) on the side of my house. The whole endeavor lead to another interesting photo-op though so all was good.

Let me know what I should have done differently.

Nice shot :D The focus and sharpness are great :D I think there is a lot of "dead space" in the frame. You can crop.

OK, I took your advice and got rid of some of the background. The crop got a little tight and I think that I lost some sharpness in the process. But how is this one?

nice shot............great sharpness in the refraction in the drop...

you should also clone out the sensor dust spots (quite a few under the drop in the uncropped version)
and still a couple in the crop...

after you do that you should clean your sensor :)

I know. I think that I have the dirtiest sensor known to man. And that isn't really a joke. I need to build some courage and buy the copperhill system, I'm not going to pay my local shop $50 for cleaning my sensor. I guess I'm a little stubborn.

Here's an untouched original.... man check out all that dust. Good thing I normally shoot at f/2.8 LOL:rolleyes: .

At this time I would like to pay homage to the master of macro (IMO).. LordV.

Had to say it. I feel like I am stealing a little also.

Excellent shot- colour and focus very good, certainly not feeble :) , just thought the composition could be improved- has alittle play with the original shot you posted, though it looked rather nice inverted :)

Brian, thanks for taking the time to reply. Sorry if I stole your idea. Your shots are just so awesome, I had to try to duplicate them (failed this time). I really need to read your tutorial on focus stacking.

I don't know if I like the inverted shot, but you are more than welcome to play around a bit.

Thanks,
Travis

Travis - idea stealing does not come in to it- I'd seen plenty of water drop shots before I tried to do it- one of the points of posting here is to trigger ideas. The inversion of your shot was me just playing but I think the composition / crop was more pleasing.
