Still think I'll add the 50 mm, 430ex and a big old memory card to the order...

I strongly suggest that you get two or more memory cards. Reduce the individual card size if need be (two 1-GB cards instead of one 2-GB, for example), but having more than one card will save your bacon some day.

If you have only one memory card, you will leave home one day with the camera bag and when you get to where you want to use the camera, you will find that the camera is empty. You will remember that you left the memory card in the card reader (something else you really NEED, by the way) back home. Having your second (and more, maybe) memory card in the camera bag will really make your smile come back quickly.

Same goes for the battery. I was invited (as a guest) to a friend's wedding and he asked that I bring my camera. I dutifully charged the battery the night before and left it sitting in the charger, so imagine my surprise when I pulled the camera out of the bag and it didn't fire up.

Thanks to the spare battery in the bag, nobody noticed, it took just a few seconds to grab it and load it and carry on. It wasn't a job, so no money on the line, but it saved me from looking like a laughingstock :p

Have a look at the Battery sticky thread on the accessories page, it discusses third party batteries in detail and in particular a company called StirlingTek - they are great people, excellent customer service and the batteries they sell are actually better than the ones that Canon sells.

Their batteries are WAY cheaper than Canon ones, and come highly recommended
