Wonderfull shots Gordon.
Think #1 is a small dolochopid fly- the males and females have slightly different colouring with the males having more red in their eyes.
Wonderful wasp- is this the smoke subdued one ? :)
Interesting that it's not the same species that I recently snapped.

The Wasp i caught in a clear plastic cup then i just placed it in a dark cool corner of my kitchen which seemed to subdue it enough so that i could lift the cup and take a few shots, there real easy to catch, as for the colouring - they seem to change dependant on which direction the lights coming from, i`m not doing the smoke thing anymore as its not doing them any good at all, especially as i see there on the endangered list :D ...
