Hi, 1st I no there are sections for specific equipment but as this is the macro section thought better to ask here.
Has anyone tried one of these and if so any good for a first entry into Macro.

Haven't tried one but have seen reports from other users. Pretty certain it's not ETTL or indeed ttl, so you have to work out the power settings to use. Other problem is I'm pretty certain it only has a very limited working range.
Personal view would be you are better off getting a normal ETTL flash unit with flash bracket and diffuser.

Russel,

Make sure it will work with your camera. Even the older Canon Ringlites would not work with their own 20D. I have been using the Canon Macro Ring Lite MR-14EX and am very happy with it.

A normal flash on bracket will give great results... This will be a good Macro entry invesment...
