Which battery charger for BP-511?

I have a G2 on order. It just struck me while looking at the kit I ordered that there is no battery charger. I saw a Lenmar MACH1 speed charger which can be had for about $70. Does anyone have any preference for a charger or for additional BP-511 batteries?

Just waiting for my camera!

I'm not sure if I am understanding your post correctly. There is a battery charger that comes with the G2. It doubles as an AC power supply. The battery is charged in camera.

If you mean you want a seperate charger that charges the battery out of the camera than these are available from Canon as optional extras.

You can also get third party chargers that will do the job but for me I am happy at the moment just plugging my charger into the camera and topping up the battery that way.

I bought a second battery made by Jessops (here in the U.K) which was a lot cheaper than Canons own. It works fine and if I go on a long shoot then the night before I simply charge one battery in the camera, remove it then charge the other and keep this one in. I then have a spare if I need it. The beauty of Lithium batts is that they suffer no memory loss and can be fully charged at any state without harm.

I might invest in a car charger at some point. This seems a good option.

The G2 comes with a battery charger built into the camera. I don't like using such an expensive photographic tool for a battery charger. I bought the Lenmar Mach 1 Speedcharger for $60 US. It charges the BP-511 in a little under thirty-five minutes (I've only used it once so far and the battery was not fully dead when I used it, but close). This charger also works with a number of other lithium ion batteries.

You can see a full review of the Mach 1 at http://www.steves-digicams.com/2001_reviews/mach1.html (external link) . Here is where I purchased it for $59.90- http://www.shabria.com/battery/MSC-1.htm (external link) . I think I paid $5 shipping for priority mail and had it in three days from Montana to Connecticut. Much cheaper than the charger that Canon sells which I think runs around $150. The Mach 1 can be run from AC power or from the DC cigarette lighter connection in your car.

I can't see using the camera to charge batteries either. I bought the MACH 1 with the camera.
It is quick and works from my campers 12V socket. A good investment in my opinion.

I just received the Lenmar Mach 1 Speed Charger to be able to charge an extra battery abroad (and not risk the camera.) After charging, upon removing the adapter according to instructions (sliding it), two pins on the base unit broke off. Anyone else have this problem? I need to know if should get a different charger, or simply exchange it as a defective unit. I bought it from Battery Barn.com. They are sending me a new base, but I wonder if this base is prone to losing those pins? Thanks.

Go to www.batterybarn.com (external link), they are great to deal with and service is fast. I bought my Lenmar and a couple of spare batteries from them, great people to deal with, sorry to appear like a booster, but they are so good.

My Mach1 seemed defective--it was hard to snap the adapter into the base (didn't slide easily) and the pins broke off. Battery Barn immediately sent me another base and a postage paid envelope to return the original broken one. The new one seems to work fine, and I am extremely pleased with their service.

Mach 1 Problem

I have had a Mach 1 which works great, but now for the second time, one of those pins broke off. It seems hard to attach the battery adapter without breaking a pin. I asked about this before, and no one else had this problem. Are you leaving the adapter on the charger inbetween charges? I was afraid to do this thinking that it was best to put the battery in the adapter, before latching the adapter on the charger. I am now waiting to see if Lenmar will honor the warranty on this.

I just found out that Lenmar's Mach1 chargers have two models. Which one do you guys use? MSC1 or MSCD03?

I picked up a Universal Lithium Camcorder Battery charger for $29.95 at Walmart. It charges either a BP511 or a BP512. It came with a lot of adaptors but luckily none of those are needed to charge the G2 battery. It also comes with a car adaptor that I haven't used yet.

Bought an extra battery at http:www.adorama.com (external link) for $34. Charged it in the charger and its working fine.

As a follow-up to my post earlier, I did some more research and I found out that model MSC-1 is for camcorder and model MSCD03 is for digicam. But the thing is, they both support the BP511. Can I use the Lenmar's MSC-1 for my G2?

I have the MSC-1 for my G2. It works with the BP511 and the BP512 (I have one of each) batteries.

For those using the Mach1, have you had any problems with those pins breaking off when you attach the battery adapter? Do you just leave the BP11 adapter attached all the time? I wonder if taking that on and off leads to those pins breaking. ??
