Just ran across a Canon 70-210mm Macro lens and was curious how decent it was for a cheaper lens to get a few macro shots in here and there. Most of my time & $ is using larger zoom lenses and dont really shoot much macro work but it would be nice to play with and shoot better shots than with my 28-135mm IS.
This is the lens I ran across and saw it had a nice macro focus range. I thought some of you guru's here had used the lens beforeand could give me some insight.

Doubt this would be as good as getting a set of Kenko extension tubes and using them with the 70-200mm at the 70mm end. I suspect the macro will only be lowish power (1:3 or 1:4) and the optics will not be anywhere near as good as your 70-200.

Agreed... the "macro" designation on these type of lenses really just means it can do a close focus, not 1:1 like a true macro setup.

You might also want to get a Canon 500D close-up lens to fit your 70-200 zoom.

I would recommend a good set of tubes (Kenko, Canon & I think Jessops) over close-up lenses. Don't get me wrong, clos-up lenses have their place (and I use them all the time) but they do tend to add a fair bit of distortion around the periferal of the image. You don't get that with tubes and you'll probably pay about as much for both setups.
