I've been told a few times that there is a difference in how the camera meters a shot in Av mode compared to Tv mode.

Could somebody explain?

Thanks :)

I don't think its true. The metering is set exactly the same according to everything I've read or heard....

I agree with Rob,

I don't think there is a difference but why not do a quick test.

Best done on a tripod.

Set to Av and dial in a value. Look at the shutter speed it gives...

Set to Tv and dial in previous shutter speed. You should now get the same f/stop as before.

There's no difference if you just move the dial.

The only thing is with AV(Aperture priority) you control your depth of field and have a corresponding shutter speed for the correct exposure.

With TV(shutter priority), you control your stop action/motion and have a corresponding aperture.

There are other factors that control metering.

Thanks for clearing it up :) I must have misinterpreted what someone said.
