Does anyone think that there is enough of a demand for Canon to come out with a TTL-E flash the size of a 480EG?

I would'nt wait for it you might be better getting a third party lens such as Metz or Sunpack. From my understanding the Rebel D was realesed to capture the average consumer market so there will be very little options to upgrade for unless you can do some in home modifying.

The 480EG is not compatible with ETTL. It is compatible with TTL-Canon Film Cameras, Manual Flash, and Auto Thyristor Flash. To use it on a 10D, 20D or any other Canon digital camera, you need to set it to Auto or Manual, not TTL. For that kind of money you would be better off with a Quantum T4D, which will do ETTL with a dedicated adapter cord, in addition to Auto and Manual.

Hi
I just get back from canon:
Thank you for contacting Canon product support about using your
Speedlite 480EG on your EOS 10D. We value you as a Canon customer and
appreciate the opportunity to assist you.

The EOS 10D is only compatible with the EX series Speedlite flashes.
Unfortunately, you will not be able to use your Speedlite 480EG with
your EOS 10D. I apologize for any inconvenience that this causes you.

We hope this information is helpful to you. Please feel free to contact
us again if you have any other questions or concerns.

Thank you for choosing Canon.

Sincerely,

Erik
Technical Support Representative
