I'm heading to Austin, Texas this weekend. Any suggestions on cool places to take pictures?

We're going to San Antonio one day (Sea World). And I'm not sure where else...

Any thoughts?

I just got back and am going again next week. Austin has quite a bit to photograph and it really depends on what you are looking for. For the night life, hit 6th street for clubs/bars and parties. For scenics, hit Lake Austin. I also found a great place near 71 and Riverside that you can get a nice shot of the skyline. The city has all kinds of painted guitars around, so hunting those down can be fun. There are some very interesting architecture in and around downtown as well.

There's plenty of cool places to shoot, just depends on what you want for subjects! :)

Wow, this one was dug up from the depths!

Ironically, however, I'm leaving for Austin (again) next week. So I appreciate the thoughts. Anybody have other suggestions?

6th street is great, and the warehouse district by 4th.

The best spot to take night scenery of the downtown is at Joe's Crab on Riverside Drive (external link). Head there around 7 ~ 8p.m. you shall be rewarded. :)

Bob Bullock Museum (external link)is a good place, very "Texas" like.

Also, this is sort of chance of a life time. Gibson has put 30+ giant guitars around Austin. Some autographed by famous celebrity. If interested, go to this website (external link) and download the map (external link). We drove around whole day to capture as many guitars as possible. It was fun. :)

If you like birds like i do, go to Central Park (external link) at Austin. Most of the time you can find some Yellow-crowned night herons, and some wood ducks too. Kids love to feed the ducks there. Sometimes the wood ducks will join in and grab some bite. Make sure you walk down to the edge of the ponds. They are hiding in there. ;)

If you like to photograph dragonflies, butterflies, and flowers, head to Zilker Botanical Garden (external link). Plenty of photogenic species there, including the Spiny Texas Lizard.

Hope that helps. I'll post again if i can think of more.

Thanks so much Fee! I really appreciate it.

We're going to spend a couple of days at Port Aransas also, so if you know of anything down that way, I'd appreciate hearing about it as well.

Thanks again!

You are welcome.
Port Aransas eh. I've never been there before but based on the map, I don't think you'll have problem finding photogenic subjects. :)
