Hi all seems like an excellent site - pleased I have found it but could do with some help.

I own a Cannon EOS 35mm but am looking at buying the 300D.

Do i purchase it from a shop in this country (UK) or do I buy the rebel from US and sort out the different changer of the battery (is that the only problem)?

Reading a lot about this and am getting very interested. Have a lot of lenses to go with the camera but unsure about the major purchase - any offers of advise - please.

The cheapest place (I think - so far):

Any feedback about the camera is welcolme - good or bad. Just very interested about the whole idea of good digital photography.

Thanks for you help

Hi Marchy,
I think you may have more hassle than the saving is worth if you buy in the States.
The taxman over here will expect you to cough up duty then VAT gets added onto that! Together with the fees to the shipper for collecting the taxes and then the VAT on that - you get the idea?
Then getting a UK charger - though I haven't seen a Canon price on one.

There are some decent deals in the UK, a friend of mine bought from Park Cameras - £850ish with the 18-55mm lens - and no doubt cheaper now if you shop around.
Think about getting the 18-55mm as it is likely to be a selling point when you come to trade-in or sell the 300D to upgrade to your next DSLR........as you will!

All the best.

Paul

seems like paying a lot of money to the tax man - who already takes far too much of not enough!

Would that def. happen - bummer :(

Cheers Paul

Marchy:
I'll add my recommendation to buying it in the UK. The biggest problem you face potentially would be returns and/or warranty issues. It would only take one incident of having to ship the whole thing back to the US to make any savings meaningless. I'm not familiar with any significant reliability issues with the 300D, but why tempt fate?

Whichever way you decide to go, welcome to the 'club.' The 300D is a first-class piece of equipment, and in not time at all, you'll be wondering how you ever got along without it.

Tom

I'm not short. I'm concentrated awesome!
