This shot is more of a close up than a macro, but seems most on topic in this forum. The second shot is provided for a little perspective. This fellow was strolling down the sidewalk in the back yard around dusk. I got down on my belly to take the shot. I laughed when my wife suggested it might attack. I didn’t laugh when the beast charged; elbows got pretty bruised getting out of his way. It is surprising how fast he can move. Not sure why he attacked. Perhaps he saw his reflection in the lens.

cooooooooooooool spider............... theres a saying........... bigger the spider... less harmfull the bite.
they tend not to rely on venom. just brute force
I'd imagine it would still be bloody painful tho but not life threatening :) (on par with a wasp or bee sting probably)

appears it is an Oklahoma brown tarantula.....
apparently "One of the most docile species of tarantula, the Oklahoma Brown Tarantula or Texas Brown Tarantula makes an excellent pet for beginners and for use in classrooms!" (do a search and you'll come up with tons of info)

if you wanna see a REALLY big spider check out this guy :)
Goliath bird eating spider (external link)
look at the second shot of it sitting on the dinnner plate :)......

the spider does exacxtly what it says on the tin :)

Chemicalbro,

Thanks for the link to the tarantulas. I have held these before and have certainly seen them kept as pets. However, I have never had the nerve to pick one up in the wild.

You are one crazy soul, getting on your belly ;) Glad you did, though, the first pic is really neat. If I pretend it is macro I really love it!

Lovely spider, looks like a Tarantula of some sort. Mostly harmless to humans, quite tame actually.
