Both. Also have a sparc used for random bits of testing. All those who know anything know it doesnt matter what you use so long as it works. If you get the job done then your computer has done its job. Like I keep reading about cameras, computers are only tools, its the user that makes a difference (for better or worse).

Exactly. My desktop is 3-4 years outdated and can do the job somewhat, albeit limited(RAM especially, hard drive somewhat but there are ways of clearing that up), but I can still produce images that I believe are likeable. I think better than some who's shelled out thousands more on a PC or Mac.

Tools, all tools. :)

Ah, the source is pretty good, I'd think you would agree.

quote: "Simply put, at the time of writing this article, there are no file-infecting viruses that can infect Mac OS X."

Wake up people!

That's because it's not worth their time to write the virus for a Mac. They get more bang for the buck so to speak since most people use a PC. Take your own poll on this. Pick any business street and go door to door and find out what they are using computer wise. That's a (out of) home work assignment I gave my students when a Mac user quit the class because we were teaching the wrong comuter (in his oppinion). PC's took it hands down (not to mention all the private sector). (I spent nine years teaching people how to be computer techs).
Years ago Macs were the way to go for graphics but now you can do anything on a PC that can be done on a Mac.

I have both:

I use my little Mac Mini G4 2.4gHz with 512MB RAM and OS X for all of my creative work.

I use my HP AMD Athlon 64 3.6gHz with 512MB RAM and Windows MCE for storage and gaming.

I'm getting a little MacBook soon.

What makes a Mac better for photo editing? Photoshop CS2 is pretty much the same on both platforms to my knowledge.

before the switch to intel, the risc cpus (g series) made photo, video, and especially sound editing slightly faster. however, it's now cheaper to get a core2 duo 4gb ram dual 7900gtx 2tb raid 0 monster of a pc (think 2k+ if you don't go for ee version, but more storage than you will need for well over a year and the fastest components avaliable) than it is to get one of those larger macs.

as for viruses on mac, there have been a few, or else norton would never have made a mac edition av (been a long time since then). second part, as YosemiteJunkie said, macs make no sense for a cracker to exploit because their aims are to have a virus spread quickyly. at the rate viruses move now, it would take a decade for a million macs to get infected, far more than enough time to make counters for it....

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

Mac = Beer? I would rather have likened it to a fine wine. :)
