OK it took me months to complete, but they're done and posted! Check out the graphs (and some disclaimers & explanations) at my PBase site: http://www.pbase.com/lwestfall/lens_tests (external link)

I know these charts are VERY busy, but when you get used to them you're able to compare any of the tested lenses compare at similar focal lengths or within the categories of fast primes or macros. ALL Resolution and CA data is in there, plus a couple vignetting charts as well. I like the broad comparisons-at-a-glance they allow, and I hope there will be other people out there that find these useful.

Although I'm not sure when I would get around to editing these graphs again, if you find something wrong with them or have advice regarding the data presentation, I'd be happy to hear from you here or in comments on the PBase site or via email to lincolnwestfall AT gmail DOT com.

Kudos to Klaus (and John) for meticulously reviewing all these lenses and producing this huge standardized data set for the photo community!

Cheers,
Lincoln :)

Thanks Jojo! As a matter of fact, "our" 24-70EX and I just shot (as a backup of course) my sister's wedding at Alta, Utah! Some fringing when I tried shooting wide open in harsh afternoon sun, but I'd say all-in-all it performed quite well!

Ironically, the 24-70EX is basically the ONLY lens that didn't end up getting tested by Klaus as I was hoping. I think it has more followers States-side than in Europe. :)

Take care,
Lincoln :)

Lincoln, very interesting stuff. Is there any place where one can check out the data points in xl format?

Do you have spreadsheets for all of this data as well, or just the images of the graphs?

Sorry, Klaus & John have specifically requested that I only share the graphs and not the Excel files. (They want to try to ensure their data doesn't get used in any commercial or non-source-citing way.)

So at the moment I guess the only way to single out specific lenses on the graph is to remind yourself what colors you want to follow and mentally block out the rest. (And I did try to keep the inter-graph lens color-coding consistent.)

The other curves will just be there as a constant reminder of the many other lenses that you might not otherwise have thought of as being optically competitive, keeping you aware of the broad spectrum of choices out there. :)

Good luck deciphering! :)

Lincoln :)

BTW, if you want to exclude certain lenses from any chart to yield a cleaner, personalized version for your own use, just open the chart image in Photoshop, select those specific curve colors, and replace them with the background gray! (Thanks, DPR user Gordon S Walker, for the idea for this work-around!) The images have all been re-uploaded without any font-smoothing so that lenses can be removed cleanly.

Cheers,
Lincoln :)

Still no sticky? Or at least an addition to an existing sticky? This is great stuff!
