Hi,

I'm just hoping someone can put my mind at rest, or confirm that something is wrong.

I have just recieved my new 30D and EF-S 18-55 Kit Lens. The Item check list states the box should include a warranty card for both the camera and lens. I have a freepost registration form and the European Warranty System terms and conditions booklet, but nothing with the serial number of the camera or lens on it.

Am I missing something important?

Many thanks in advance,
Dave

Hi Dave,
You should find the serial number of the camera on the bottom somewhere near the tripod fitting. I'm not certain about the lens though. You can do the warranty registration online on the Canon UK website, somewhere under "support" I think. It's easier than sending the registration card in.

cheers
Bill

Thanks Bill,

I'm just a bit worried becasue when I compare the serial numbers of the lens and camera to the Body Number sticker on the packaging, only the lens matches. Is this normal?

Hi Dave,
To be honest I'm not sure. The boxes and so on are buried somewhere in the attic and it would probably take me a week to find them! It would be a bit like Scott of the Antarctic... you know... "I may be some time" - Personally I'd register the number on the bottom of the camera because you know that's valid, and from memory you should get an email back from Canon confirming that it's registered for warranty ok and that should you have any trouble ring xxx etc.

hope that helps
Bill

Where did you buy it?

I've just got mine and the Canon website specifically asks you to register the number on the camera.

I ordered it from www.cameradepot.co.uk (external link)

Did your 30D include a warranty card with the serial number of the camera on it, or am I looking for something that doesn't exist?

I forgot to mention in the original post that the box was unsealed when it was delivered. The outer delivery packaging was fine however

No it didn't. There was a standard card but I registered online anyway.

I didn't have a card with the serial number on it in my 30D kit either.

There was just the freepost registration form that you have to fill in, the same thing came with my nifty fifty lens too. I did post both.

You have to register on-line anyway if you want the free 512mb CF card, so do that as well.

There are serial numbers on the box of my kit, the top number matches the 30D body and the lower one matches the 18-55 lens.

There should be two cards... One is registration card (which you can register on-line or mail in, no stamp required), the other is the warrenty card, which has the model and serial# of the camera (there are blank spaces for you to fill out the owner's information and the dealer's information).
