i need to take pictures of my fast moving baby. i have read pekka's article about photographing kids, but this one is different. my son, is only 11 and half months. everything in that article didnt work!

he is a fast moving baby, so :

1- please tell me how to take his picture, indoor. most of the time i got blurry pictures because of his movement.

2- please teach me how to take his pictures without the blitz. if that means i have to set the aperture and etc etc manually, uh, please teach me! i learned that there are lots of settings. i cant determine which for what lighting condition.

i am a freakin newbie, and i NEED heeeeeeeelp.

thx in advance.

Hi,

Maybe the article did not apply as a 11.5-month old does not understand talk :)

If you don't want to use the flash, you only option is to put you camera in ISO 400 mode and try to push shutter speed as high as you can in Tv mode. You'll get noise to photos, but at least you have chance to get sharp ones.

With fast moving kids/people you need at least 1/125 speed to even try to stop them on CCD. That's why I recommend (bounced) flash - it will make sharper photos at slower shutter speeds. If you have an external flash point it straight up so that it does not blind the kid and you get some reflected light back.

You need to take a LOT of photos to get a few good ones. That's normal, don't save that CF card :)

Post some example photos to see if you still have problems!

Bounced flash is when you use an external flash pointed up towards the ceiling, hence the light is reflected or 'bounced' onto the subject - it gives a softer light than the harsh effect of 'direct' flash, where the flash points at the subject...

Cheers,
Stuart

The flash unit used in the article mentioned above was the Canon 420EX model.

Get the 420EX. The EX series speedlights are the only flashes that will work properly with the Canon digitals. Any other flash will simply fire at full power, requiring you to compensate by using M mode and adjusting shutter speed and aperture until you get the desired result.
