are these new cards really needed? until a camera can actually write 40MB/sec I am fairly certain I will stick with the cheaper ultra II as my XT can only write about 4MB/sec...

Not at all, if I have to pay from my pocket. Of course, 8GB is a factor, some people may require them.

camera nor card reader can even get 20MB/s i don't think. XT can write almost 5MB/s for jpeg and just over 6MB/s for RAW.

So how would the IV do in a 20D? I have two 1 gigs and used them over and over and sometimes with a lotof bursts and love the III's and was thinking of picking up a couple of 2 gigs. but it the IV's are better....

hopefully soon we seem some ExpressCard or FW800 readers... faster read speed = faster dumps to the pc...

I think I might pick up a 4gb extreme IV and the new card reader...I was about to buy another 4gb extreme iii but since this came out, I might as well buy the newer one.
