Hi folks, off to Alaska, obviously whales, eagles and bears await. I don't plan on using manual not comfortable with it yet.

Is it safe to say that Av is the setting of choice, along with AWB and changes of ISO?

Some guidance here would be appreciated as I am sure that landscapes and wildlife will be the most photographed.

Cheers,

Lucky you. I did a similar trip last year and found that AV was my preference but I controlled the white balance due the the large variations in the changing lighting due to intermittant cloud cover. Use of the circular polarizer was very important around all the water and glaciers which produce the reflective light.
Have fun.

Pic - Rookie here too and I got the Rebel XT pretty much just for the cruise to Alaska. Took some time to wring it out - now that I have figgered it out I have some pics from the cruise on a flickr site (see sig line). Couple of things I learned - I had fun experimenting (the Tv for the waterfall and the Av for eagles and people) - I am glad I got a backpack for the excursions and I wish I would have taken a rain jacket (or similar) for the rainy weather -- if you do a quick search for Alaska there are some other good ideas. I had a GREAT time and will prolly go back next year - looking forward to seeing your pics!!! Snap Safe!! Tim
