went to a local bike meet tonight. usually alot more packed, but the weather is a little wet on other parts of Miami tonight. i gave it a try with some of the suggestions and what i read on here. basically, its a lowlight situation and i dont have access to a tripod (and i dont have the $$ yet to buy one after this purchase  )

for the most part, they were 1/10th, ~5.0ish, and iso800. many of them came out quite blurry cuz i was holding the cam. i didnt really go for any sorta angles or anything while taking hte pics...just wanted to try out lowlight photography @ car/bike shows and see how they turned up.

but these 2 i somewhat liked:
this one had pretty decent lighting, so it came out pretty clear for my resources i had. gsxr-

this one is my fav...mainly cuz its a VMAX- love these bikes. it was on the side of everything and in a lowlight area, but i processed it a lil and brightened it.. this one was at iso1600 btw. any less and i think it might have been way too dark

this is a 100% crop of that pic...quite blurry. is that normal for a lowlight handheld shot, or am i doing something wrong? any better settings?

i also gave panning a try...lowspeed around 10 mph  ...this one came out pretty well i was surprised

c&c...not lookin for any on the actual subjects/angles...moreso of techniques used for clear shots and better lighting of them with nothing more than the XT and kit lens. thanks :)

a little bit too close to the bikes in the 1st 2 pictures... unless that was intentional.

That might be part of it at 1/10 sec.

That might be part of it too, as the DOF falls off fast as you get closer.
If everything is blurred, then it's slow shutter speed. If just part is blurred, then it's shallow DOF.
Or it could be a combination of them. Play with these a bit: Virtual Camera

i tried faster shutter speed, but any faster and it was just bout impossible to see them on the screen. raising it to iso1600 helped slightly, but 1/10th was the fastest i was generaly able to go. i just dont see other settings besides iso/speed/aperture that can effect this. where lowering the iso isnt much of an option, any higher speed and its too dark, and my largest aperture is generally limited by my kit lens.

i tried every possible combination really and the only thing that was generally changeable was my speed

guess if im gunna want to take pics at lowlight shows, a tri/monopod isnt going to be an option

edit- it wasnt a DOF problem as they were all generally just as blurry. some shots came out perfectly clear, some shots came out all aorund fuzzy...from what i can conclude at least, is its from holding the camera
