Are you by chance working in 8 bit? I work in 16bit and my 10D RAW files are either 20 or 40 MB (can't honestly remember since the first thing I do is copy the background layer) and because I work with multiple layers, most images end up being 200-250 MB which is quite large coming from a 6.3 megapixel camera. I plan on upgrading to a 5D and it's quite likely I'll need a computer upgrade along with it. 22MB images will become extremely large when opened in photoshop I would imagine, and 75MB seems reasonable, but that's only if you work on one layer which many people do not. When you factor in layers you double the image size, and so now you're looking at images of 150, 225 or even 300MB for a conservative estimate.
