The only leg this fellow would buy was the left one, and that is my favorite one. Had we made an arrangement for the right one, I'd be browsing this forum from his makeshift hospital. Also, I offered to throw in one kidney, but the greedy animal wanted two. So I figured better walk out in one piece, quite literally, than with money and no kidneys, or eyes.
I was actually looking forward to the wooden leg, I assume I'd walk into any assignment, and everyone would be sure to look into my lens (almost) for evrey single picture. That and handicaped parking perk, I always kind of wanted that.
:)

I see the smiley - and no offence is taken. Believe me - you really don't want disabilities. The parking permit doesn't compensate for all the limitations, though it's a help.

My biggest frustration at the moment is my lack of strength from the effects of my disabilities. Coupled with the heatwave, the last time I picked up my camera seriously was three weeks ago. The last time I went out was yesterday, to visit my doctor - and I managed to knock the tyre off one of my front castors, which meant struggling to strip it down and rebuild it in 90 degree humid midday heat.

Disabilities have certainly taught me that there's more to life than possessions and money. I found I've become increasingly grateful for what I have, especially when it comes to intangible things (such as friends). There are many joys in photography for me - it disciplines me to look more intensely at what is around me, also it helps me preserve and share memories.

David

David -

My sincere apologies if my post was somehow disrispectful of disabilities. It meant nothing of the sort. A post above said -jokingly, I might add- that he would rather give a leg rather than selling his rifle to buy photo stuff (This being a Photo Forum).

This is a common Expression, although not a very "Politically Correct' according to some. I responded in the same candid humor, stating that I had tried to sell a leg and even a kidney, however without success, hence ended up selling my rifle to buy camera equipment, which is the whole purpose for this Thread.

I wish to impress on you and everyone my respect (which is reflected by my actions in a daily basis) for the disabled community, and also clarify that the comments above were directly marked as candid towards the sacrifices that one must sometimes make to get what they want, or need for their job.

As for your additional comments, there is definitely more than life than possessions and money. There is Canon equipment, for example ( :) ) ... Seriously though, you make a good point. Relative to life, everything else is minor, or of less importance. And I hope you count me, like the rest of this Forum, as an intangible thing - a friend.

Thanks again for the comments, and I hope this clarifies the situation.

Regs,

I truly wasn't taking offence, and no apology is necessary. I just wanted to say a little "from the chair".

The humour in what you wrote came through, and I certainly know the power of humour to keep you going. I think it's healthy that we can bring up these topics - nothing offends me more than all mention of disability being taboo. The times I've been most hurt are because people have been unwilling to talk to me and assumptions have been made about me and my needs.

It's always hard to sacrifice something that has meant something to you - but I wish you all the best with the decision that you've made.

Do you think there's a market for legs that don't work so well? <grins>

All the best,

David

Steven,

It will be great, but sometimes it sucks for a while to give up something you like (other than a camera or lens) in order to invest for Photo equipment. No regrets, but sad nonetheless. :)

I know what you're saying. I have a hard time giving up my food.:lol::lol: I know that it's for my best interests but it's still hard to do.
I think that you'll be happy once you get your new equipment.

Different tools for different jobs. I want to keep the thread about photography. as a few days ago a discussion ensued abour ammo, and someone started posting crap, and when I corrected them with the appropriate terminology and processes, the Mods deleted half the thread, and rightfully so.
Sad to see your 1911 go, but It applies to anything else. I am actually adding one of my 10Ds with two lenses to the selling list, so that with the money I can be zero balance with my CCard, and then get a 20D with a Lens Kit. (And still have my Canon 75-300, a Canon 18-55, the thrifty fifty, and Bigma). We will see. First the money from the sales has to come in, otherwise I keep filling my head with ideas, and nothing happens.

How much would you sell a 10D with 15-20k actuations, Grip, Tamron 55-200 brand new, Tamron 19-35 and a 1G Ext III Mem card?... (I ask because I may have overpriced mine - in this forum's classifieds).
