That Photography Depression.

Just curious if anyone else here ever has those days where they say to themselves "What am I doing! I've spent thousands of dollars to take pictures of what? Nothing? Good Grief!" because right now I am seriously considering selling All my EOS stuff and just keeping my P&S cameras. So anyone experience this or have any advice?

I've been there man, typically after a shoot that didn't yield the results I had hoped, the best thing for me is to get back out there and shoot some more, all it takes is one good shot for me to remember why I do this.

Explore your hobby though, do new things. If it's inside you, it won't die!

I think people all go through a slump of some sort from time to time. If not in photography, then in some other aspect of life. I've had days where I'll take the camera out specifically to shoot, and come back home with an empty CF card.

If you're not in the mood, do something else. The photography urge will come back to you.

And in the slim chance that it does not return, sell me all your gear cheap!

yea, ive had days that ive just wondered why on earth i put so much effort into photography. but those days are few and far between, and generally photography isnt the reason behind it haha.

Go pick up your point and shoot, take some shots. You'll find some inspiration.

I feel exactly like this. All I shoot has been done before and I have spent lots of money on the equipment.

The upside is that:
I've learned photography to a decent level
Expensive digitals allowed me to learn it fast
I do use it from time to time

for me it is the challenge of learning

sure you get depressed when you don't get the results you want as quickly as you want

but the inspiration for me comes from seeing what others have accomplished. I browse the used book stores for photo books showing images done by "the greats" and also "how to" books which helf me to expand my skill level

it is the journey that counts......

the heatwave is killing me recently... the idea of going out in over a hundred degree weather is kind of making it hard to go out... I think we all go through phases with our photography and I know everyone has doubted their abilities and/or talent... I know I do constantly. But, I try not to dwell on the mistakes and do my best to not repeat them.. Put the camera down for awhile. Set aside a certain amount of time everyday and go around with the camera.. if you see a composition in front of you great. if not atleast you were out...

I not only do that with photogrpahy but with my car. I've put thousands into my car and am only going to put more into it and sometimes I ask myself...why? But then I remember how fun heel toeing from 4th to 3rd gear into a 25mph speed limit corner at 75mph is, then I remember... Still working on the turbo set up to pull myself OUT of the corner. Entrance and mid corner are the only fun part right now :-/

Same with photography. I see amazing photo's and just remember why I do it. I've always been an artisic person, and have always been into drawing. Ever since I took up photography, I've been able to find more beauty in everyday things and almost everyday, I see something that would make a good picture. That also makes me remeber why I do it...

You'll do it with any hobbie you have, especially if you've been doing it a long time.

I have these days all the time. The important thing is to have a goal and to persevere through them. My goals are what keeps me shooting through the dry spells, I probably would have given up a long time ago if I didn't have an end in mind.

I've got thousand$ in studio gear when I first got into it back in 2001. I got bored with it, "depressed" because I can't create the music I hear in my head... though people say my music was good and it touched them.

So I went to DIY electronics... http://www.fivefish.ne​t/diy to see some of my DIY projects.

Then got bored with it... so I went back to photography, joined a local camera club, and now taking pics of equestrian events. It's fun, especially when people pay you $$$ for pictures you've taken.

I figure I'll get bored with photography someday... then I'll go back to my studio.

BTW... I did photography back in 1992 with an all-manual SLR camera.

What am I saying?... it's all a cycle. It wanes and goes... but it will come back again. Just have fun.

I would say yes to that. I have high standards where my photographs have to be the best that anyone has ever seen. I show them to friends and they like them. I show them on here and I get nothing. Gezz what a tough crowed

However I keep saying to myself, I know the equipment, I know how to shoot and I know the different settings I can use. I just have to learn to capture what's in font of me my way. I have only been doing photography for just over 3 years and it's always something I wonted to do. I have alot to learn. Most of it has to be about the style of photography.

if I was you pick up the point and shoot and leave your EOS system at home. Shoot with that for a day and then the next day leave your P&S at home and get your EOS system to the same place and shoot the same things.

I know exactly how you feel. Been there many times. When I get that feeling, I usually go out and buy myself something nice from B&H. And then I don't feel so sad.
